Functioning of a dry pressure gauge
Most dry pressure gauges function according to the Bourdon principle: increased pressure will cause the Bourdon tube to straighten lightly, and will regain its original form when pressure decreases. A mechanism transmits this movement to the needle in the display. A dry pressure gauge is not filled with glycerin; that is why it is very suitable for use in, for example, the pharmaceutic industry. It is important, however, that vibrations, pressure surges etc. do not occur on a regular basis, because the indicating needle is not stabilized by a fluid.
Dry pressure gauge with a plastic case
In our catalogue, you will find two types of plastic cased dry pressure gauges: the 7301 and the 7304. Both are available with a diameter of 63 mm. The 7301 has a brass bottom connection and the 7304 has its brass connection on the backside.
A plastic cased pressure gauge is a bit cheaper than a stainless steel one and is very suitable for environments where the pressure gauge is not submitted to corrosion causing circumstances.
Why a dry pressure gauge with a plastic case?
A plastic casing is lighter than a steel or stainless steel casing. It is important that the pressure of the medium is not too high, and that there are no aggressive chemicals or high temperatures present. Some situations in which plastic case pressure gauge are suitable:
- Food industry: plastic does not react with food or non-aggressive chemicals;
- In water or sewer treatment processes, a pressure gauge with a plastic case can be suitable because it is corrosion resistant.
A plastic casing is cheaper than a steel or stainless-steel casing. However, a plastic casing pressure gauge does not last as long. This is something that you might want to take into consideration when making your choice.
